Sun Orange Farm wins Tesco supplier award

[Article taken from Capespan COURIER – December 2003]

One of the THANDI™ Initiative farms, Sun Orange Farm, located in the Sunday’s River Valley in the Eastern Cape, has been named on of the suppliers of the year of Tesco Plc, the leading British retail group.

Tesco Plc named Sun Orange Farm as its winner in the category of new product development with its THANDI™-Fairtrade oranges and lemons.  James Hannah, joint shareholder of Sun Orange, collected the award during a ceremony in London.

James Hannah and two of his fellow shareholders, Stephen Kleinbooi and Simon Mgolodelwa, visited the United Kingdom as part of a THANDI™ group to celebrate the official launch of THANDI™-Fairtrade products.  At the same time they witnessed the arrival of the first THANDI™ Grapes form the Orange River region on supermarket shelves, as well as to monitor the sales programme of citrus products from their own farm.
